Struggles & Reasons for Hope in War-Torn Israel/Palestine

Where is the Jewish and Palestinian cooperation so desperately needed for peace in the Middle East?  Hear the startling answer first-hand from award-winning author Anna Baltzer, a Fulbright scholar, Columbia University graduate, and the granddaughter of Holocaust refugees.  Baltzer will be giving her acclaimed presentation on the conflict and the joint Palestinian and Israeli nonviolent resistance unknown to many.  Baltzer will be signing copies of the latest paperback of her book, Witness in Palestine: A Jewish American Woman in the Occupied Territories.

SELECTED APPEARANCE AT ATONEMENT

Monday, February 15, 2010, 7:30 p.m.

Baltzer sheds light on the important political, historical, and emotional complexities of the challenges facing Isarel and Palestine. - Jim Doyle, Governor of Wisconsin

Even those who are familiar with the grim reality of the occupied territories will quickly be drawn into a world they had barely imagined by these vivid, searingly honest, intensely acute portrayals. - Noam Chomsky, Author

Raised in California with a traditional view of the Palestinian issue, Baltzer's perspective changed when she worked with the International Women's Peace Service in the West Bank.  Her soft but courageous voice for peace and insistence on speaking truth has led to more than 100 television appearances and lectures at more than 300 universities, schools, churches, mosques, and synagogues around the world.  She serves on teh board of Directors of The Research Journalism Institute, Grassroots Jerusalem, and The Council for the National Interest.

Our Vision for the Future

Atonement's Congregational Council and Pastoral Staff have spent a great deal of time discussing and praying about the right solution to our space concerns.  We recently engaged a Christian consulting firm named "Kairos" to advise us on an appropriate means for addressing this issue.  Kairos is the Greek word that means "now is the time."

Following this consultation, that is exactly our collective conclusion and recommendation -- If we are to realize our full potential for Atonement’s ministries, now is the time to address our long-standing space constraints.  As found in Ecclesiastes 3:3 -- it is A Time to Build Up!
