Pastor Wink's first attempt at adult life
was as a marketing representative for Control Data Corporation, after
graduating from Southern Methodist University and Northwestern's Kellogg
Graduate School of Management. He continued to work in sales for
technology companies until entering the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago,
and has now been out of the field for so long that he requires assistance to
operate his computer.
At Atonement, his primary responsibilities
are "leading and feeding," that is, leading a very able staff and
elected volunteers, and carrying most of the teaching schedule during Sunday
services. He takes on the role of "player-coach" in both
settings, being "on the field" while at the same time finding and
encouraging others to use their gifts and energies toward Atonement's mission,
vision, and values.
Pastor Wink is married to Joy Wink. They have three
young children; Natalie, Joshua and Olivia. When he is not helping
them with their homework, musical instruments, or driving to one thing or
another, he enjoys cooking, maintaining health and fitness (especially through
golf), music, travel, and friendship building. |

I grew up in Fredericksburg and Sumner, Iowa. After a typical small-town Iowa
upbringing, I attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and received my
Bachelor’s of Music Education/Music Therapy in 1997. I then went to the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago
and received my Masters of Divinity in 2002.
I served as pastor of Bethania Lutheran Church in Racine, WI
from 2002-2007. During my time in
Racine I discovered that I had a gift for reaching out to children and youth
and wanted to pursue that specific type of ministry.
In 2007 I came to Lutheran Church of the Atonement as youth
and family minister, focusing on elementary and High School youth. Our kids have a great deal of pressure
and difficulty to navigate as they grow. I believe that a Christ-centered approach to life will equip or kids to
handle these pressures and grow into strong, faithful, and confident adults who
are ready to make a positive difference in the world.
I am married to Sara VanDeBerg (also serving as Pastor at
Atonement) and we have 3 children: Anna, Isaac, and Eli. We live in Barrington. |
