Next Pain Education Meeting in July

The first meeting of the Pain Education group was held Tuesday, June 3 at 10:00 a.m. in the Gathering Place. Led by Atonement member Dan Mjolsness, Illinois State Leader for the American Pain Foundation's Power Against Pain program and a chronic pain sufferer, the session was a wonderful beginning. Information was exchanged, personal stories shared, and emotional support given through discussion and prayer.

More than 1 in 4 Americans live with chronic and often debilitating pain, and only a small percentage are diagnosed and treated adequately. If you have chronic pain or know someone who does, these meetings will help you learn more about the options available to chronic pain sufferers and those who love them. For more information, contact Dan Mjolsness at 847- 462-1101.

 “Tools of Hope"

It’s that time of the year again to start thinking of the men in your life that have made a difference in your life - your husband, father, grandfather or whom ever else you can think of. On Sunday, June 8 and June 15 (Father’s Day) we will have a table set up in the Gathering Place to collect money for tools to be sent to CWS (Church World Services). A tool with the name of the person to be honored or remembered will be placed on a sample for you to view. Contributions can be in any amount. This year the need is even greater with the many world disasters. Please help! Thank you.   - Jim Glatczak

WOMEN’S SUMMER BIBLE STUDY

Tuesday mornings from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. in the Gathering Place.

Classes begin Tuesday, June 17 and go through Tuesday, July 29.

Babysitting is provided.

Seven Lessons from the Alpha Course

Seven lectures from the Alpha Course have been chosen for consideration this summer. There will be 15 – 20 minutes of homework each day for 5 days for each week. The DVD material and class discussions will give you help in talking with others about your faith.

Even if you won’t be able to attend all sessions, come and join us when you can. This would be a good class to invite friends who may want to find out more about Christianity.

Cost of workbook is $5, we’ll collect money in class. Please call or email Julie Thomson to register so we’ll be sure to have enough workbooks. 847-381-0243 x 188 or jthomson@churchofatonement.org

PRISM Weight Loss Program

PRISM is a program designed to help anyone who has struggled with an issue of being overweight and desires to become the person that God intended them to be. This program addresses the need to lose those extra pounds that endanger your health and assists you in changing your self concept and your eating habits - your lifestyle. PRISM teaches that in order to lose weight and keep it off for a lifetime individuals need to understand food addiction and learn the underlying issues of overeating.

PRISM is a 24 week program divided into four (or more) six-week phases. In Phase One you will be introduced to the “principles for lifelong change in behaviors of overweight individuals.”

The principles of the program desire the transformation of the whole person - body, mind and spirit. The principles are Biblically based and each week you will be encouraged to participate in a study of scripture.

The cost for each phase of the program is $55.00.

If you wish additional information please contact Linda Hanson (847- 381-3198) or Pastor Will Wagner (847-381-0243).
