Small Group Ministry celebrates life together in
Christian community. We are encouraged by both the daily connection
demonstrated by Christians in the earliest days of the church, as well as the
profound encounters with God we experience today when we gather in community to
study God’s word as well as share the peaks and valleys of our lives.
A Small
Group is composed of up to 10 people committed to meeting on a regular
basis. Groups currently exist as three types: Men’s, Women’s and
Mixed Adult. Many Small Groups are formed through invitation within one’s
immediate circle of friends. Equally effective is simply connecting into
a newly forming or existing Small Group through the assistance of the Small
Group Ministry Leadership Team.
Each Small
Group has an identified leader. Once a Small Group is formed, it is up to
the members of the group to decide how the group will function and what will be
studied. Example studies include: a book of the Bible, purposeful
living, effective parenting, spiritual disciplines or a classic Christian novel. Small Groups meet regularly, typically 2 or 3 times per month. Time and
location is determined individually by each group. Common locations
include member’s homes, a local restaurant or at Atonement.
Each September the Small Group Board works with
all interested people to get connected, and reconnected, with a Small Group for
the coming program year. So while fall is the best time of year to join,
we are always happy to work one-on-one at any time of the year to help you find
an opening or start a new group. To do so, please either contact one of
our team members or inquire at the church office.
