Who are we?
The
Community Meal is a FREE meal served once a month by a Barrington area church.
It was founded at the Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Barrington, Illinois.
How did we start?
The
Community Meal became a reality from Atonement’s Leadership Retreat in April
2009. The Community Meal partnered with BAMA (Barrington Area Ministerial
Association) to unite churches in the Barrington area to host meals throughout
the year. BAMA has become our official sponsor.
What is our goal?
Our
goal is to encourage & strengthen friendships, share kindness and inspire
hope in the community by the simple act of sharing a meal together as
neighbors.
What have we accomplished?
We
served over 120 guests at our first meal in May 2009. At the fifth meal in September
2009, we served approximately 140 people. More importantly, we continue to
build community at each meal.
What is our vision?
The
Community Meal is a living statement of who we are in Christ, how we treat one
another, and how we serve one another.
The
Community Meal was founded on the values of love, compassion, commitment and
grace. We want to build enduring relationships with our neighbors in the
communities we serve and beyond.
The
Community Meal is going to change the world. Hunger is a problem not only in
other countries around the world, but locally!! We have neighbors, friends, and
families in need. Our goal is to bring everyone together and share real
experiences, real conversation, and real problems.
Come
and join us not only for a meal but also for a taste of community. We have an
open and inviting space where everyone is welcome. We will have great food,
great music, and a great time getting to know each other. Life is built on
relationships. The time to start building them is now.
Who has made commitments?
To
date, 8 different churches in the Barrington area have committed to host a
meal. Community Meal’s are scheduled through 2010. See if your church is
hosting!
Where do we serve?
The
Community Meal currently serves the communities of Barrington, Carpentersville,
Lake Zurich, and Palatine, and we hope to continue expanding.
